Version 3.1
* Removed a bug discovered by Jos Bergman and Rob Macare: Games which
weren't timed used a timeout of 0 seconds making it impossible for a
user to play the game....
* While I was working on it anyhow I took some time too to add a few options:
- Added support for the UserOn door When you use this door on a multiline
system, other users can see in which external program other users are.
(If supported by the program or when the info is given from a batchfile)
- Added the -AKA:on parameter. If you use thisone and the user has a handle
installed, the handle is used for the hall of fame. (If it's empty the
normal name is used..)
- Added the -ASK:ON parameter, if you add thisone, the user gets a chance
to type hisname/nick/handle for the hall of fame. Default value is the
name/handle as found in the exitinfo. Control-X is supported to clear
the field before typing a new name. Note however, that if you turn this
option on, there's no way of checking anymore if the user already is in
the hall of fame with the same game.. The name is used ASIS...
Note that there's no such thing as -AKA:OFF or -ASK:OFF if there's ANYTHING
behind the : the option is turned on!
* Put a WriteLn before the 'Scanning for trivia datafiles' line. Looks a little
more decent if the user decides that he doesn't want to see the
TRIHI.ANS/ASC/AVT file...
==============================================================================
Version 3.0
* Added HighAscii support. When a user has ASCII selected instead of
AVATAR or ANSI, all the higher ascii characters are translated..
So 'ê' becomes 'e' for example. Not that not everything is translated.
Only the characters and the boxdrawing symbols (+-|) Anyhow, you can
savely use high ascii in your questionairies now..
* Made trivia awear of the existance of RA 1.0
* Added AVATAR support. It's also possible to add music to the TRIHI and
TRIBye ANS/AVT file. Your user probably can't hear it, but on the local
console it should sound right..
* Changed a few colors, added a few lines.. And more minor details..
* The Commandline parameters have changed!! They now use an indentifier.
Added 2 new parameters too.. All the available parameters are now:
-T:<Time Left> -T:*T (Default: 120 Minutes)
-N:<Node> -N:*N (Default: Node 1)
-P:<CommPort> -P:*P (Default the port in the config.ra)
[-S:OFF] If the -S:<Whatever> parameter is found local sound
is turned off as default.
DON'T use -S:ON!!
* Changed a few things in the Statusline. The location disappeared, the
line got to long with some names... This gave me some space to add
a sound indication..
* Added network support. Whenever trivia opens a file the SHARE bits of
the filemode are also set. Whenever you use a multiline setup on a
network and don't want to use share.exe because the networksoftware
handles that the sharing itself you can add the USESHARE=OFF line
to your environment to override the detection of share and the usage
of recordlocking.
- YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!! -
==============================================================================
Version 2.2
* An other bug poped up.. and this one was realy obscure! Somehow, on a BBS
running under DesqView the two lines garbled each other.. After a long
and difficult quest through all the possible causes Jos Bergman found the
bug.. (which was so stupid that I'm to ashamed to tell here....)
Anyhow, it's solved and Trivia should do what it's supposed to do
when running under DesqView (or any other multitasker for that sake)
==============================================================================
Version 2.1
* Oh boy.. why do those bugs always show up AFTER a release..;(
What was wrong this time:
When a user had his quietmode toggle ON and wanted to play trivia it's
the last thing he does on the BBS.. That is, until the sysop resets the
system. trivia says: There's mail for you and goes gaga..
Anyhow, an other bug bytes the dust!
* Took the oppertunity to change the english 'by' to the dutch 'door' in the
dutch brag screen.. Overlooked that one..
==============================================================================
Version 2.0
* Added some new features:
- Timed game. A timelimit to answer a question.
- Less then 5 answers per question
- Statistics screen
- A bragpage, as I saw question file authors trying to put there bbs info
behind their name.
- More controle over the questions for authors.
- A converter for SpitFire trivia games to the LiveSystems Trivia door.
I would like to make a reverce converter to, just to be honnest, but due
to the lack of features of the spitfire trivia program I can't.. To bad.
- Added a Hall Of Fame mark. when a player passes the 30 or all questions
and has a chance for the HOF, a star appears between the [ ] in the
question screen.
* Removed bugs:
- see also version 1.7 and 1.8, they were release while I was working
on version 2.0 because of VERY seriouse bugs!
- Removed lots of little buggs.
Before you use TRIVIA 2.0, you have to run TriConv to convert your old TRI files
to the new format. Using this utility is simple:
TriConv <Path+File spec>
F.e. TriConv c:\trivia\*.tri
will do the trick.
Of course, if you made your own TRI files you may prefer to update the TQ file.
Sorry, no converter for thatone, but with a good wordprocessor it's a piece of
cake.
!!!!! REQUEST !!!!!
Please don't put converted files online but mark those TRI file as version
1.x files. This to avoid confucion. The authors can convert the files
themself using the new features of trivia 2.0, and users of the program
know when it when they converted the 1.x file themself.
TriConv tels it when a file is already a 2.0 file, so everybody can easily
find out if a tri file is 1.x or 2.0.
Thanks!
Enjoy.

Version 1.8
Sigh, The bug which apparently caused the hanging of the system and which
was removed wasn't the bug that was reported... So there were two bugs in
the same part of the program...;( And they both only poped up under very
specific cercumstances... Only when the hall of fame is full and a new
user with a low score tries to occupy entry 15.. Well, that's one thing
that no debugging can find.. Especialy as this is one of the more
complicated parts of the program. People can only have one entry for a
single questionnair, it has to be higher than an previouse entry, and
a new added entry should be above the ppl with the same percentage..
My excuses to the people that are getting annoyed by all these releases...
And my special thanks to Rob Ramselaar who did send his registration fee the
same time as he found the bug. Talking about faith! Tnx!
Anyhow, the complete "Add to hall of fame" procedure has been rewritten from
scrash and has been tested to the bone.. With help from Rob. (Tnx again..;)
and at least, it works as it should, without hanging your system.
Hopefully this is the last one.. As I'm running out of numbers (only 1.9 left)
before 2.0.. And THAT'S a real update!
Already some new features that are being tested now:
For the Trivia authors:
* Timed Trivia Games with limited time per answer, (Optional)
* Less than 4 answers per question,
* A bragpage where an author can show his name and BBS (Optional)
For the players:
* More exiting games with the timed questions
* a statistical screen where you can see how other ppl played on a
trivia game
Hope to see you back on version 2.0!
==============================================================================
Version 1.7
Well, actualy this version shouldnot exist, but due to a very anoying bug
discovered while betatesting 2.0 (Not THAT soon to be release, have to hack
some things out first like a gamble option..;) I deceided to go for 1.7
anyhow.. A few other, minor bugs are solved too..
* The default trivia file wasn't closed if it wasn't played as the first
trivia game.. This could hang the system under the right circomstances..
* TriHi and TriByte weren't found due to a misspelling in the source..
* Due to the former bug noone should have noticed, but there was a little
bug in the internal ansidriver too..
Also Solved a bug in tric which didn't show the correct line when finding
an error..
==============================================================================
Version 1.6
- Due to a miscommunication with one of my beta testers 1.5 was release
before it was tested completely. Sorry for you out there who downloaded
or requested the program..;( It had some major flaws left:
* Answers were still cut off after the 50 character
* Tric wouldn't do it's job.
Both problems are fixed and should work ok now.. Hope ya all stil like
the program ;)
To insure that there's no confucion I updated this version to 1.6
- special thanks to Roel van der Made who pointed me on a bug in the TimeOut
Daily timelimit code. Fixed of course
==============================================================================
Version 1.5 (Beta)
- Increased the Max. size of the questions and answers. A question may be
up to 255 characters long spread over maximal 9 lines of maximal 78 chars.
This way all the info stil fits on a normal 24 terminal screen.
Answers may be up to 75 characters now (Still fit on a single line while
playing the game)
VERY IMPORTANT: There's no need to update old .TRI files. They are still
100% usable due to the simple but effective way
of storing the files. If you want to adjust old TQ files
to take advantage of the new limits, those have to be
upgraded. Use TQUpdate on the old TQ files.
- Added TQUpdate to change the old format of the TQ files to the new format.
This could be done with a simple Search and relace too, but service is
everything..;-)
The new format:
Author <AuthorName>
Subject <Subject>
Question
<Question Text+
More question Text+
Even more question text>
Answer <Answer 1>
Answer <Answer 2>
Answer <Answer 3>
Answer <Answer 4>
Answer <Answer 5>
Good <Number of good answer>
Tric complains if a question uses to much space. If a question spans more than
a single line the last character has to be a '+' (Of course the last line of
the question shouldn't have one)
Planning for version 2.0:
- Timed playing
- choise of number of Answers (3..5 but for the WHOLE FILE to give anyone an
equal chance on the game)
- Speak up.
The two extentions here would make the file format incompatible, so I wait with
them until the public demands and there's a reasonal amount of enthousiasm
for the program. Until that time I like to keep the File format stable...
Of course there will be a conversion util available to convert the old format
into the new format....
==============================================================================
Version 1.4
Initial release. Very NEW indeed...;-)
